FAQ
Questions, answered.
Everything riders usually ask us before their first ride.
What is the difference between a Riding Club (RC) and a Motorcycle Club (MC)?
A Motorcycle Club (MC) traditionally follows a structured, territorial culture with strict protocols. A Riding Club (RC) like Iron Vanguard exists for the love of riding and the community around it. We claim no territory, we are open to men and women on any style of street-legal bike, and we focus on great rides, fellowship and giving back. We have deep respect for MCs and the riding community as a whole.
Are there motorcycle riding clubs in Maryland accepting new members?
Yes. Iron Vanguard Riding Club is a Maryland riding club actively welcoming new members. If you are 21+, licensed and insured, and ride a capable street-legal bike, fill out our interest form and an officer will reach out.
Where in Maryland do you ride?
All over. As a riding club we claim no territory, so our rides cover the whole state, from Frederick and central Maryland to the Chesapeake Bay and Eastern Shore and the mountains out west, plus annual road trips well beyond Maryland.
How fast are your rides?
Every Iron Vanguard ride is published at one of five levels (Noob, Casual, Moderate, Experienced or Spirited) so you know the pace, road type and experience expected before you show up. Our Saturday sport ride runs at the faster end; our Sunday cruiser ride is more relaxed.
Can I ride with you before I join?
Yes. Our larger group rides are open to the riding community. Reach out through the interest form or follow our ride posts, then come meet us at a ride and see if Iron Vanguard is the right fit.
What kind of motorcycle do I need?
Any street-legal motorcycle that can safely hold highway speeds and the pace of the ride; we recommend 500cc or more. Sport bikes, cruisers, baggers, touring, adventure and standard bikes are all welcome.
Do women ride with Iron Vanguard?
Absolutely. Men and women can join as full members.
I'm a newer rider. Can I still join?
Yes. We publish Noob and Casual level rides specifically to help newer riders build group-riding skills, and our Road Captain and ride leaders are there to help you grow.
How often does the club ride?
Every weekend from April through October: a fast sport ride on Saturday mornings and a cruiser ride on Sundays. We also hold signature rides, a monthly dinner meeting and annual road trips.
How does joining work?
Send the interest form, apply with your license and insurance, meet the officers, then complete a prospect period of at least six months with a sponsor. When you're ready, the membership votes on your patch.
Are there membership dues?
Yes. Members pay annual dues, payable all at once or in monthly installments, which fund club rides, events and charitable giving. Reach out through the interest form and an officer will share current details.
